Superfine fly ash is very difficult to separate. Value Ash has the technology to extract the ~20% superfine fractions efficiently and at low cost. Currently about 150 million tonnes fly ash that are landfilled contain such valuable fractions that could be separated .
To make ultra high strength concrete it was needed to use superfine silica fumes for 5 to 15% of the binder content. Silica fumes are expensive, in the order of 600 to 1000 US$ per ton. Only 5 million tonnes silica fumes are produced annually globally. Superfine fly ash <10 micron increases the packing effect. It has about 85% of effects of silica fumes at 1/3 of the costs. Superfine fly ash allows to create much stronger and more durable concrete It is also more reactive to create better geopolymers.
Value Ash Technologies has developed and patented a unique fly ash separation technology in partnership with VITO, a leading Belgian research organization.
